This dress. I whipped it up last night on a sewing machine that I hardly deserve. As per the instruction in the pattern, it only took me eleven stitches and a half an hour, but that seemed like a lot of work at the time. And the belt isn’t really working, but it’s a good excuse to shop for a wider one.
I have a hundred reasons to avoid my sewing machine, but as much as I like lists, it would bore you to tears reading a list of whiney excuses. Know that, at the top of the list is: two boys under 5, under my feet, all day long. And right under that? Very little patience.

I cannot even fathom that you MADE that. It’s freakin’ fabulous. Love the belt color too–though I can see it with a bigger one. I’m in awe, woman. Seriously. I can’t sew a single thing!

ok, so it was more like eleven SEAMS and not eleven stiches 🙂
and, really, this was the easiest thing since learning to toast bread. I LOVE that new Blueprint mag! Have you checked it out, yet? I wanted to do every DIY from cover to cover! (panting like a dog)

Wow – congratulations! I love it and it looks fantastic on you. I should make one to inspire me to run/bike/yoga like you so it won’t look like a potato sack on me. No excuses needed for not sewing more though. Quantity does not equal quality. LOVE IT and the photos.

Wow. You look amazing! It’s a very retro pattern — and I think the belt works just fine. And I’m red with envy over that sewing machine.

hello. I just found your blog and love it. That dress is incredible. The dress and the photo. Incredible! It’s almost 10:30 here and my daughter will be up at 6:30, but I don’t care. I must go make one now! Now if I can just go find two yards of fabric…

That bottom picture is just so great. Reminds me of a Maurice Sendak story called “In the night Kitchen” when a cute boy named Mickey falls through the sky… into cake batter. SO SWEET.

Wow! Thank you for the kudos!
Rachel–Good luck! And don’t forget the cord/ribbon 😉
Krista–we LOVE that book! Sendak has great poetic style; the kids love to hear the recordings of his books over and over in the car. And I remember a serious cross-hatching phase in high school that I can attribute to him, as well 🙂
